Wine tasting in Alsace : Day 1

On the occasion of the Salon Millésimes Alsace, I had the pleasure to be invited by CIVA (Conseil Interprofessionnel des Vins d’Alsace) for a 3 days wine tasting trip.
On Sunday, June 12th, after a 6 hours drive during which I met other bloggers, journalists and wine merchants, we arrived in Alsace. We were 8 Belgians invited to this nice trip.
Our hotel, The Mandelberg, surrounded with half-timbered houses seemed to come straight out of a fairy tale.

We started our stay with a wine tasting at the vineyard Klur, in Katzental. After having admired their beautiful round cellar which inspired their logo’s design, we sat outdoor.
The sun reappeared when we tasted the first wine. The welcome was warm and the moment was accompanied by a delicious lemon cake.

We had the pleasure to taste 7 different wines, amongst others: Le Katz, Le Win.ck, Pinot Noir Klur, Gewurztraminer Klur
My favorite will remain Crémant de Clément. As Francine from Klur told us: “Il est à boire du petit déjeuner au coucher”.

The vineyard Klur is very dynamic and proposes various activities, for example, random visits, oenological workshops …etc.

After the pleasant wine tasting at Klur, we went to the DiVINes d’Alsace’s welcome party at the Domaine Jean-Baptiste Adam (Ammerschwihr).
The DiVINes d’Alsace include more than 70 women of the world of wine (winemakers, oenologists, vineyard managers, oenologists, sommeliers, …). They bring their help to the promotion and the success of Alsace’s wines.

On the menu of this evening : wine tasting, Vieux Millésimes, local delicatessen, cheese and chocolates.
All this with pretzels, woks and flammekueches 🙂

Thank you to the DiVINes d’Alsace for this evening made of great discoveries and nice encounters. This event allowed us to enjoy the diversity and the wealth of Alsatians wines.

At the bubbles and pretzels bar, I will particularly remember the Crémant Millésimé 2008 from Domaine Schoenheitz and the Crémant Brut Rosé, from Domaine Zinck.

The Schoffweg 2012 from Domaine Marcel Deis was perfect to accompany the flammekueches.
I was very lucky to taste a Muscat Grand Cru Eichberg 1990 (older than me 😀 ), from Domaine Paul Ginglinger, an unforgettable experience!

To end the party nicely, we had the opportunity to taste chocolates with different Riesling, Gewurtzraminer, Pinots…
For example the “Palet Or” (Bitter ganache on chocolate from Vietnam, vanilla from Island of Reunion) associated with a Pinot Noir Grossberg 2011 from Domaine Louis Sipp.
Also, the “Ruschka” (ganache Russian black tea) associated with a Gewurztraminer Burgreben 2014, from Maison Jean Huttard. A pure delight!
